WARDOGS Mortar & Artillery Ballistic Calculator

Compute exact horizontal ground range, compass bearing, 6400-mil azimuth, and interpolated elevation MIL for the L81 Mortar and SPH-2 Self-Propelled Artillery across Bakurani, Ozeti, and Zestafona.

Instant Ballistic Telemetry

Enter Gun and Target X/Y coordinates (1 grid unit = 100m) or direct distance to compute WARDOGS azimuth (6400 mil) and elevation for L81 Mortar (132-684m, 150-850 mil) and SPH-2 Artillery (780-2,629m Low and High Arc).

Season 02 Mortar Engineering & Logistics Update: Under the Season 02 balance patch, the L81 Mortar build supply cost increased from 150 to 600 supplies, while ammo restock costs increased from 75 to 150 supplies. In addition, dropping a shell now plays an authentic firing animation, removing instantaneous multi-shell salvos. Range values (132 to 684 m) and elevation tables (150 to 850 MIL) remain fully accurate for indirect fire missions.

How to Calculate Distance & MIL from WARDOGS Map Coordinates

There is no automatic targeting overlay when operating indirect-fire weapons in WARDOGS. Across all three 256 km2 (16 x 16 km) battlefields, 1 coordinate grid unit equals 100 meters (0.10 equals 10 m, and 0.01 equals 1 m). Use the six-step formula table below to verify any firing solution manually:

Calculation Step Formula / Rule Worked Example (Gun 80.00, 70.00 to Target 83.00, 74.00)
1. East-West Offset (dX) dX = Target X - Gun X 83.00 - 80.00 = +3.00 units (300 m East)
2. North-South Offset (dY) dY = Target Y - Gun Y 74.00 - 70.00 = +4.00 units (400 m North)
3. Ground Range (Meters) Range = 100 * sqrt(dX^2 + dY^2) 100 * sqrt(9 + 16) = 500 m (0.50 km)
4. Compass Bearing (°) Bearing = atan2(dX, dY) in degrees (0-360°) atan2(3, 4) = 36.9° NE
5. Horizontal Azimuth (MIL) Azimuth = Bearing x 6400 / 360 36.87° x 6400 / 360 = 656 mil
6. Linear MIL Interpolation Interpolate between nearest table brackets Between 494m (470 mil) & 501m (460 mil) = 461 mil

L81 Mortar Complete Firing Table (132m to 684m)

The L81 Mortar fires exclusivamente on a high-angle plunge trajectory: higher MIL values pull the shell closer to the tube (850 mil = 132 m minimum range), while lower MIL values extend range out to 684 m (150 mil).

SPH-2 Self-Propelled Artillery Low Arc vs High Arc Table (780m to 2,629m)

The SPH-2 operates across two distinct ballistic envelopes. Low Arc (20 to 600 mil, 1,181 to 2,629 m) provides flatter, faster shell flight when terrain is open, while High Arc (610 to 1,390 mil, 780 to 2,629 m) clears steep mountain ridges on Bakurani and urban stadium roofs on Ozeti. Park the chassis on level ground before recording Gun X/Y coordinates.

How to Build, Supply & Spot for Mortars in WARDOGS

STEP 1

Equip Large Hammer

Building a mortar requires the Large Hammer ($2,400 vendor price in Season 1) plus building supplies on your character or stored inside a Forward Operating Base ($7,500).

STEP 2

Support Role Level 8

Lay the mortar blueprint inside your FOB build perimeter and hammer to completion. Support role level 8 unlocks the highest hammer tier needed for heavy deployables.

STEP 3

WASD + Mouse Aiming

Dial horizontal azimuth (6400 mil) with WASD and fine-tune elevation MIL with your mouse. Watch the shell-follow camera or have a spotter call Short/Long corrections.

STEP 4

Loadout Slot Shells

Purchase shells from the spawn base vendor or receive air-drop crates. Since Season 1, 155mm, 122mm, and flare deployables occupy loadout slots.

Methodology & Data Attribution: Community-measured ballistic tables and map coordinates are compiled from official Steam announcements and verified Early Access telemetry. Firing tables (L81 Mortar 132-684m, SPH-2 780-2,629m) and calibrated map coordinates are sourced from the open-source Apollyon WARDOGS Calculator (MIT License) and cross-checked with community testing; mortar construction rules and Season 1 progression shifts are compiled by PCGamesN and official Steam Season 1 patch notes.

Mortar & Artillery Ballistics FAQ

How do you calculate mortar range and MIL from WARDOGS map coordinates?
On Bakurani, Ozeti, and Zestafona, 1 map grid unit equals 100 meters (0.10 equals 10 meters and 0.01 equals 1 meter). Subtract Gun X and Y from Target X and Y, multiply the Euclidean distance by 100 to get ground range in meters, convert compass bearing to a 6400 mil circle, and interpolate elevation from the L81 Mortar (132 to 684 m, 150 to 850 mil) or SPH-2 (780 to 2,629 m) firing table.
What is the effective range of the L81 Mortar and SPH-2 Artillery in WARDOGS?
The L81 Mortar covers 132 to 684 meters with elevation settings from 850 mil (132 m) down to 150 mil (684 m), where 500 meters interpolates to 461 mil. The SPH-2 self-propelled artillery covers 780 to 2,629 meters across two firing arcs: Low Arc (1,181 to 2,629 m at 20 to 600 mil) and High Arc (780 to 2,629 m at 610 to 1,390 mil).
How do you build and supply a mortar in WARDOGS?
Equip the Large Hammer and carry building supplies on your character or inside a Forward Operating Base. In Season 2, the L81 Mortar requires 600 build supplies to construct and 150 supplies to restock ammunition. Dropping a shell triggers an authentic firing animation, preventing instant salvos.
What level unlocks the Artillery career path in WARDOGS?
Season 1 moved the Artillery unlock from Career 55 to Career 90, while the Heavy Tank moved to Driver level 35. Forward Operating Base ($7,500) and Large Hammer ($2,400 vendor, $75,000 Support career) prices also increased in the Season 1 rebalance.
